FAQs

Frequently asked questions

How do I get in touch with R&D Tax Partners?

The quickest way is the Book a call enquiry form, which takes about two minutes. You can also email taxadvisory@aswatax.co.uk, or call or WhatsApp +44 7537 143695. However you get in touch, we reply the same working day. It is also fine to start with a short message saying what you need, and we will take it from there.

How quickly will you reply to an enquiry?

We reply the same working day. If you use the enquiry form and you spend £50k+ a year on R&D, have an open HMRC enquiry, or are an accountant, you can choose a time to talk straight away without waiting for a reply. If it is urgent, just say so in your message.

Can I message you on WhatsApp?

Yes. You can message or call us on WhatsApp at +44 7537 143695. It is handy for a quick question or for sending the date on an HMRC letter. We reply the same working day, so for anything urgent please say so in your first message. It is a good way to reach us from your phone.

Is it safe to send documents by email?

Please do not send sensitive company documents before we have spoken. After the first conversation we agree with you what we need and how best to share it, so that you only send what is necessary and in a way you are comfortable with. Sending too much too early can also delay things, so a short first message is best.

Do you take calls outside office hours?

Our promise is to reply the same working day. If HMRC has set a deadline, say so in your first message, with the date, and we will prioritise it. Calls are normally arranged at a time that suits you during the working day. We would rather know early than learn of a deadline when little time is left.

Can we meet in person?

Most work is done by video call, phone and email, which suits the way R&D evidence is gathered and shared. If a meeting would help, for example with the technical team, ask when we speak and we will see what makes sense. Video calls also let us bring in more than one of our team when that helps.

Who will read our enquiry?

Someone on our team who works on R&D claims. That is why the form asks a few questions: so the right person reads it and calls. Every claim we prepare is reviewed and signed off by a Chartered Tax Adviser. Small companies and large ones get the same care, and you will not be passed to a sales team.

Is our enquiry confidential?

Yes. Your details are used only to respond to your enquiry, and the first conversation is confidential, so you can explain the company's work openly. If you are bound by a confidentiality agreement, describe the work in general terms and we will work with that. That applies whether or not you go on to instruct us.

Can my accountant contact you on my behalf?

Yes. Accountants and other advisers can use the enquiry form, email or phone, or the Refer a client form. Your client stays your client. We pay referral fees to accountants who introduce clients, and we always disclose them to the client. We will agree with the accountant in advance who speaks to whom, and keep them copied in.

HMRC has given us a deadline. What should we do?

Contact us now, and give us the reply date from the letter. Do not ignore it and do not send everything HMRC asks for before you have taken advice. We triage the case the same working day, tell you where you stand and agree the next steps. The sooner we see it, the more room there is to respond well.

Can we email HMRC letters to you?

Yes, once you have told us about the letter. A short message with the reply date is enough to start. We then tell you how to send the letter and any earlier correspondence, and review it before anything is sent to HMRC. Do not send the letter to anyone else first.

What should we include in an enquiry?

A line or two on what the company does, what it has been working on, a rough idea of annual R&D spend, whether it has claimed before, and the date on any HMRC letter. That is enough to start. We ask for the rest when we speak. Do not worry if you are missing some of these.

Do you reply to enquiries from outside the UK?

Yes, we reply to every enquiry. R&D tax relief is available to companies chargeable to UK Corporation Tax, so the company needs to be within the UK tax net. If you are unsure, tell us about it and we will say whether the relief is likely to be open to you.

Can I ask for a call-back?

Yes. Use the enquiry form to choose a time, or send us a message with your number and when suits you. We will call you then. If it is urgent, say so and we will call the same working day. If you tell us the best number and time, we will try to call then rather than leave you waiting.

What happens to my data after I contact you?

It is used only to respond to your enquiry and to carry out any work you instruct us to do. Our privacy policy sets out how long we keep it and your rights over it. If you instruct us, we hold your information to carry out the work and meet our legal obligations, including those under anti-money laundering rules.
